Abstract:

Giant cell tumor is a rare tumor of bones which is accounting for less than 5% of all the primary bone tumors. It is extremely rare in small bones of hand and even in hand, metacarpals are least involved. It is associated with bony destruction and swelling and due to advanced stage presentation, treatment of disease becomes very complicated. In advanced stages recurrence rate is also higher. There is different treatment protocols found in the literatures which include curettage of affected part with or without bone grafting, enbloc resection followed by reconstruction and amputations. We here describe a case of successful transplantation of non-vascularised fibula strut graft to the affected 4th metacarpal bone. By using this technique, we able to preserve the full function of the metacarpo- phalangeal joints.
